Zoom has security settings that are opt-in. Here’s how to turn it on and use it.
How to set security in Zoom
Follow these 10 steps to secure your next Zoom meeting.
To turn on Zoom security for your next meeting:
- Set a password
- Authenticate users
- Do not allow “join before host”
- Lock your meeting once everyone has arrived
- Turn off participant screen sharing
- Use a randomly generated meeting ID
- Use waiting rooms
- Avoid file sharing
- Remove disruptive attendees
- Check for updates!
Setting a password for Zoom meetings
- Go to settings
- Tick “require a password”
Authenticate users
- Only allow signed-in users to participate
Do not allow “join before host”
- Go to Accounts Management > Account Settings > Meeting Tab
- Turn off “join before host”
Lock your meeting once everyone has arrived
Once your meeting has started go to:
- Manage Participants > More > Lock your meeting
Turn off participant screen sharing
Once your meeting has started go to:
- Security tab > turn off participant screen sharing
Use a randomly generated meeting ID
- Choose a randomly generated ID when creating a new event
Use waiting rooms
- Account Management > Account Settings
- Select “Guest participants only”
Avoid file sharing
Zoom has disabled file sharing but be mindful when sharing files with people outside your organisation.
Remove disruptive attendees
- Hover over their name
- Click “More” > Remove
