Has someone “borrowed” your iPhone and given themselves access to it? It’s worth double checking to make sure that this hasn’t happened to you. If you’ve downloaded a new version of the iPhone or iPad security app iVerify, like I have, you may have noticed the tip for securing your device that’s new. It’s something most of us haven’t even contemplated before.

It has something to do with Face ID and that you can have more than one face registered on your device.

Face ID is a super secure, super-fast way to unlock your iPhone and iPad devices.

But your device is only super secure when someone doesn’t secretly know your passcode. Perhaps while you were unaware, that someone added their face to your iPhone or iPad. In other words, they can unlock your device with the same ease that you do.

Therefore, we have the question of how can you tell if someone has registered their face on your device?

Here’s how to check:

  1. Tap Settings > Face ID & Passcode and enter your passcode.
  2. If you see the option to Set Up an Alternative Appearance, then there’s only one face enrolled, and you’re OK.

If there are two faces enrolled (maybe you enrolled your face twice) and you’ve not set up your device so someone else can access it

3. Tap on Reset Face ID (it takes seconds) and enrolment again

It’s highly recommended to change your passcode!!

4.To do this tap Settings > Face ID & Passcode, and enter your passcode, and then tap Change Passcode.

Just doing this quick and easy check and fix means you’re the only one that has access to your device now. Whose face was the alternative?  There’s no way to tell. You could put someone’s face in front of your device to see if it unlocks. But otherwise, there’s no way to tell as the face isn’t stored, only a digital representation. And this information is locked away in Apple’s Secure Enclave chip.

If you haven’t already, it’s recommended you install the app iVerify. It’s loaded with security tips and information to make your devices more secure, namely iPhone and iPad. And if you’re curious about hidden trackers in your phone.
